Coca-Cola Singapur

I was already 23 when I first saw the ocean. It was love at first sight. The colors. The smell. The waves. I couldn´t believe how beautiful they were. I fell in love right away. Years after, when I was 37, I moved to the coast and was able to buy a little house on the beach. Everyday from my house I could see the ocean. Everyday I saw the surfers enjoying the ocean the way I would have loved to. I kept dreaming someday I could be one of them. Someday.

I felt too old to try. I kept thinking I would not be able to do it, that everyone would laugh at me for even trying. I was scared. “Someday I will take lessons. Someday I will find the time. Someday I will find the courage.” And one day, I found it.

Step by step, I started. First on the beach, learning the moves. Then came the first waves. Small ones but they seemed huge to me. After, came the bigger waves. And then bigger. And all of a sudden, one day I was really surfing!

I am not a great surfer but I don´t care. I really don´t. I enjoy every second of it. Every, every single second. I love picking up my board, I love packing my wax, towel and wetsuit. I love the smell of the ocean. I love the feeling of the wet sand between my toes, I love the first cold steps into the ocean… but most of all, I love the fact that one day I had the nerve to try. That one day I decided to leave all my fears behind and take the step. That little step, huge to me, that kept me away from my dreams. That step started everything and made it happen. I am proud I tried and lived the experience that now fills my life. I was not scared of falling. In fact, I fell many times but it was fun. I was really doing it, not just dreaming about it. Falling means you are trying and just trying can be worth it. Trying makes you feel you are living your life. Beleive me. It does. I know well. This is my story. It is a simple story but it is huge for me. Just like the waves.

Every great experience has a story behind.

You are only one step away from writing your own.
